White Light Publishing | Books, Authors & Spiritual Wisdom - Every Card Deck Has a Personality (and an Energy)
A card deck is more than words on cardboard, it’s energy, intention, colour, and emotion. When the energy is clear, a deck becomes an experience people return to again and again.

One thing I’ve learned from creating, publishing, and working with dozens of card decks is this: no two decks ever feel the same — and that’s not an accident.
A card deck isn’t just words on cardboard. It’s energy, intention, emotion, colour, texture, and tone — all woven together. When it’s done well, you don’t just read a card… You feel it.
Every deck carries a personality, almost like a person walking into the room. Some are calm and grounding. Some are loud and cheeky. Some feel sacred and oracle-like, while others feel like your best friend pouring you a wine and telling you the truth you’ve been avoiding.
Take my In My F*ck It Era deck, for example.
This deck was never meant to whisper. It was designed to shake you awake. The language is sassy, unapologetic, and yes — sweary — because that’s the energy it was born from. The colours are bold, bright, and punchy, designed to give you that instant “oomph” when you pull a card. It’s the deck you reach for when you’re done being polite, done overthinking, and ready to reclaim your power.
Then there’s Cocky Callings, which leans into a completely different vibe. The wording is playful and confident, with a sense of fun woven through every phrase. Even the prints and visual details were chosen to make the deck feel a little bit special — something you’d smile at when you picked it up. It’s confidence without pressure. Self-belief without seriousness.
And then we have Mindful Moments, which needed a totally different approach altogether. This deck is calm by design. The cards are matte rather than glossy, the background tones are soothing, and the wording is gentle and spacious. It includes a mix of affirmations and simple practices, because mindfulness isn’t just something you think — it’s something you do. The goal of this deck is to offer a pause. A breath.
A moment of presence in the middle of busy days and loud lives.
Three decks. Three completely different energies. All intentional.
Thinking of Creating Your Own Deck? Start Here
If you’re feeling called to create your own card deck, my biggest piece of advice is this:
decide on the energy first.
Ask yourself:
Is this deck meant to be fun and playful?
Calm and grounding?
Oracle-like and intuitive?
Bold, empowering, or disruptive?
Once you know the energy, everything else flows from there — the wording, the colours, the card finish, even how the deck is used. Don’t just think about what you want the cards to say. Think about how you want someone to feel when they hold them.
Because when the energy is clear, the deck becomes more than a product. It becomes an experience.
And those are the decks people return to again and again.
